I've always loved Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 and I had grown accustomed to hearing it played Liberace-style, with flair and bravado. When I came across Rachmaninoff's version, I must have listened to it 10 times in a row. He completely reinterprets the song by slowing down the melody and the parts that originally would have been the loudest are barely audible. I think this recording is from the 1930s or 40s so it's a bit scratchy but you get the idea.
