In the late 90s, Alessandra Sanguinetti began photographing two cousins who lived just outside Buenos Aires, Argentina. "The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams" [!] was the title of the four year project that centered on the girls' decisions about how to represent themselves, often involving theatrical performances and dressing up.
What developed from this close and trusting relationship between Sanguinetti and the cousins was the possibility of her being able to make other, more observational images that caught the girls when they were out of their performed characters.

I love this series by Sanguinetti! The images are so poetic and romantic, but romantic in the most sophisticated and least saccharine way possible. Thanks for highlighting the work!
