ONE!

Photo taken by Luke Kavajecz

I made these planters at the last minute using vintage pots I found at a garage sale for a $1. I bought the plastic dinosaurs from the dollar store and spray painted them gold. The cake design I found off pinterest and How Sweet It Is bakery created it for me. It was the best cake I ever had. It was funfetti with butter cream and whip cream layers.

Party favors consisted of painted drift wood, honey sticks, organic lollipops, and chinese finger traps

Tissue garland made from dollar store supplies and spray painted wood beads. Cost a total of $7 to make!

Crepe paper garland. I bought long rolls of this online and cut circles out of it, then folded them in half to create half moons over string.

Helen's friends Jasper and Liam

Soooooooooooooooooooo we did it! We threw a big old birthday bash for Helen. Even though the sun didn't decide to show it's face (argh), we still had a great time. I believe around 75 folks showed up so it was a far larger event than even our wedding! Not sure what I was thinking, but I guess you only turn 1 and have a Golden Birthday once, right?

It didn't really hit me it was a year until two days after the party. That's when I cried. I cried because I was sad she was getting older, but mostly because I was SO happy we made it. We survived our first year of being new parents and it was HARD. SUPER HARD, but we did it and I have grown ten fold from this experience and I am sure will continue to grow. But let me tell you, it's SO worth it. I never thought a little human being could change your outlook on life and make you a better person so quickly.

It sounds funny, but Helen has given me such confidence! For real. I am probably 10 times more confident now than last year. I use to get nervous meeting new people, or going to events alone. Now it feels good, I like putting myself out there. I find myself more honest, loving, and nurturing to not only my family, but to friends and new people (especially moms) I meet. And this will sounds super dumb, but I don't get uneasy anymore when I feel like wearing something a little over the top. I've just been on this path of "I'm a mother and I am going rock this intense outfit my husband thinks looks like a Golden Girl!" I am laughing aloud right now, because it probably sounds bizarre, but it's true! Helen has boosted my confidence.

Helen has also made me think more about my inner self. My spiritual self and mind. Not to get all religious on you, but I grew up in a pretty conservative Christian upbringing on my moms side. As a grew up I distanced myself from this, which I am thankful for, but still wanted to nourish the faith in God I did have. I love that I have strong faith, but never knew where to grow it. I didn't like the church I grew up in and I didn't really know where my faith was directing me. I still don't really know the answer to that, but I feel like I am getting there. I have been trying to teach myself to be more mindful and in the present moment. And to love just being. And most importantly sharing this with Helen and hopefully finding a community that nurtures this, her faith in God, and love in people and her community.

So basically, Helen has been the best teacher and learning experience life has given me and the cool thing is she's only 1 so I have many more lessons in my future.

This post will also mark my last letter to Helen on the blog :

Helen,

YOU ARE ONE! We can hardly believe the first year is behind us. You gave your dad and I so much joy as we planned and celebrated your birthday on the 1st. Our golden girl. Our beautiful loving little girl. You are the light of our lives!

It's really hard to sum up all the new things you've done in the past month. You still aren't full on walking, but you are taking a few steps here and there when you feel like it. You say "uh oh" about a hundred times a day, but it never gets old.

You're really into cheddar bunnies and your snack cups. All is well in the world if you have those two things. You've been a pretty picky eater as of late and I blame it on those darn bunnies! You are, however, drinking mama's kale juice which makes me really happy you are getting some greens!

The weather has been horrible here, but when it's nice you love being outside. We go to Old Main almost every day with Argos and you love finding rocks and sticks to play with. Most recently, you've been loving sitting in your wagon and getting pulled down the block.

You thrive around other kids and love playing with them. Showing them your toys and giving them hugs and kisses. I think you're starting to get a little bored with your mama, so I am trying to plan many play dates.

This letter will mark the last to on the blog, but I will continue this journey in your baby book and my journal.
Thank you for shining the sun in our lives the past 365 days. Love you always. Mama

Thank you for all your sweet and thoughtful comments/emails. I am finally starting to feel like myself again. Between starting a new job and dealing with Kaj's death I have felt like my world has been turned upside down. Through all of this, lessons have been learned and I have grown more than ever.

I love my new job, but as you probably have noticed I don't have a whole lot of time for blogging and it feels weird not waking up and catching up on all of yours. I'm sure once I am adjusted to my new lifestyle things will fall into place, but for now I'll be popping in whenever I have time.

Yesterday I turned 27 and I tonight I will be celebrating seeing these guys and being surrounded by loved ones. I am so thankful.

Oh- I also got a new camera from Ben and I LOVE it. It's a Canon S90 and it's perfect because it takes wonderful photos and is still small so I can bring it everywhere. I have only taken a few photos so far. The one above is from today. Ben and I went swinging at bayfront. I forgot how much fun swings are! The little things, ya know? xxxx

summers end

Now that summer is dwindling down to a few sporadic bursts of sunshine and warmth I am faced with the reality of winter approaching. I still have things on my list to do! I'm trying not to hit the panic button, but I am leaving for a couple weeks (did I tell you that?oops) and I'm afraid when I return I will be faced with chilly breezes, thousands of college kids back in town, and Thursday night T.V watching. I better start crossing things off......

..............

Next Monday I am leaving for VEGAS (for some reason I felt like I should capitalize that). Andrea and I are going to Project for a buying show. I am SO PUMPED to see all the lines and check out designers like Dusen! A day after VEGAS Ben and I are going on a much needed vacation together to Kauai for a week where he will be running a marathon and I will be burying my toes in sand. I'm so excited for our trip but I have a million things to do this week before I am ready to go and won't come home after two weeks with a pile of catching up to do! Since I'll be gone for awhile, Leslie will be guest blogging for me and she will have a million and one cool things to share with you (especially about art) so keep checking in!

.............

In other news and tidbits:

I went to IKEA yesterday and I cant stop eating these! Help me......

I'm missing Molly. Come back please. Thanks.

I will finally be taking more product photos for Hello Victory so don't give up on me yet!

I am in love with this dress.

I cut my bangs shorter today.

I have a blister on each toe from wearing new shoes for 10 hours yesterday and I'm praying to God that I don't have to wear flip flops in Vegas (I think I'd rather just cut them off). Not smart Kate.

Dandelion Pesto. cool.

This dress is darling and the photos are lovely.

I have a little over a month to train for my half marathon.

all for now....

caught up

My brain is fried. I'm so glad this week is pretty much over. Jury Duty was very interesting, but the trial took its toll. The trial itself only lasted 2 days, but you we're petty much stuck in a room with 7 people 9 hours a day discussing whether person A was lying or person B. It was a domestic abuse case, which also made it hard. Seeing pictures of a beat up woman and hearing play by play events on how those bruises got there was not easy. It was truly eye opening and I am SO grateful for the men in my life. Not everything is black and white in life, so just when I thought my mind was made up in the case you heard something new that completely changed it. I was also lucky enough to be with some wonderful jurors. Everyone seemed pretty level headed and came from all walks of life. I believe we made the right decision. It ended up being a guilty verdict, and even though I believe it to be true, I was quite nervous and scared to face a man I've never known and decide his fate. I'm soooooo glad its over! I still have another week of jury duty, but I'm crossing my fingers I won't be called back in since I already served on trial. I will be one big cranky pants next week if I do, so watch out :)

I have now found myself working 3 jobs. I'm not really sure how this happened. All I know is that I was leisurely working for Mr. Lindello's business, doing my shop, and accepting a job as a clothing buyer. I am finding myself working the moment I awake to 7pm at night. Although it is fun, and find myself working my dream job, I need to remember to make time for me and Mr. Lindello. Its easy to get caught up in work, especially if you love what you do.

The boutique is coming along, but the opening date has been pushed back again. Construction is pretty much finished, so its a matter of getting everything set up now. I have a trade show coming up next week that I'll be attending to pick out our fall and holiday lines which will be exciting. Andrea also informed me that I will be getting my very own business card soon too! Sweet! Once the boutique is open I'll try posting pictures of it.

Ben and I will also be celebrating being together for 9 years next Friday! Isn't that just crazy!? It isn't our wedding anniversary, but I like to think that this date is more meaningful. I'm so thankful he's been in my life for so long.
