Time Wasting Experiments

If you know me well, you know that I am an anxietal worry wart. I am constantly worrying about everything and everyone. It's who I am, but I've been trying work on it . I like giving my brain pep talks. I tell myself to just calm down, relax, who cares if you still haven't learned French and now say the word SOP* on a weekly basis.

That's why when I came across Alyson Provax a feeling of ease came over me. Her Time Wasting Experiments is a series of documented 'time sucks' that are for sale on her etsy site. I'm planning on purchasing a few in hopes of hanging them in little areas around my house. A reminder that life is short. Minutes turn into hours, and I've been spending too many good years sweating the small stuff. (I think this just turned into one of my pep talks). Via

*SOP. Google it. This is what happens when you get a jobby job.

Greg Stimac

"Created by fixing a sheet of Plexiglass to the front of Stimac's car, driving between various cities, and then scanning in the dust, insects, rain spots etc. that have been collected along the way". Via HUH Magazine.

bunny.

I bought this bunny poster the other day from Debbie Carlos off Etsy. She also has a site full of her other works which I really enjoyed looking through. When I saw her bunny print I couldn't help myself. I can't stand how cute it is and I've been looking for some affordable art for the guest bedroom that I am slowly making over. Since it's so large I will most likely hang it by clips on top and bottom. Can't wait to get it!

LOVE ing Marlo Pascual

Hello again, Leslie here. I wanted to share some images (objects, really) by Marlo Pascual. She currently has her first solo exhibition at the Casey Kaplan gallery in ny until February 13th.

"Pascual culls her vintage pictures from eBay and thrift stores, some coming out of an amateur photography club where the photographers strive to take ‘artistic’ photos. They are of historical genres; still lifes, interiors and furniture, portraits, headshots, nudes, and pin-ups. When they arrive, the images are small, handheld, fetish-like objects. In an interplay with the photograph’s own physicality as an object, Pascual then enlarges, crops, and re-stages the images using minimalist objects, props and lighting to form new relationships. Filtered through her imagination, the subjects are removed from their previous context and recast in new roles."

dear me

I wish I could draw.
...................................................................
Tomorrow I head to the cities and then I'm off to Chicago for Stylemax. I still can't believe I'll be buying clothes for summer when there is snow falling outside my window. This will be my first trip EVER to Chicago. I'll be alone the first night, so I plan on wondering around the city and hopefully make my way to Division Street where I hear there's good shopping and food. I'm also meeting my new friend/rep Helen of Dear Creatures for Dinner. She lives in Chicago so I'm sure she will know a good place to dine. That's another highlight of being a buyer- I'm meeting some very cool people. Have you been to Chicago? Any recommendations?

mctega

I celebrated my 26th birthday while I was in Hawaii. Although the day itself was one of the worst days of my life (long story, but a woman forgot she tied her dog to the back of her truck and took off dragging it to death. Ben and I witness the whole thing, but we're unable to stop her until it was too late....absolutely horrible. If you have a dog PLEASE don't ever tie it to your car. Apparently this happens a lot [Sorry for the complete downer....]) I did get a pretty awesome gift from my wonderful husband.

A long time ago, maybe even a year or so ago I came across the line Mctega and fell in love. The line is designed by Sarah McLellan and Kristina Ortega who once interned for Rodarte. They combined their last names (just like Ben and I!) to form Mctega. A lot of their line is inspired by their science background and see jewelry making as an experiment. I bookmarked one of their necklaces under my favorites awhile ago and Ben must have found it because he bought me the most beautiful necklace from them (first picture) for my birthday. Its truly stunning. Made from chain and resin, its not too heavy and feels really comfortable on. I wore it with a pair of jeans, heels, and tank top last night to see a movie at our new independent theater. I've actually had a lot of fun photographing it as it picks up light really well. It feels and looks like a piece of art. Thanks Ben for the best gift ever!

au revoir

The Storque posted these yesterday and I can't get over how cool they are. Artist Hendrik Kersten's interpretations of classic paintings like Girl with the Pearl Earring. Man, people can be so creative!

I leave this Sunday for NYC, so this will most likely be my last post until I get back next week. I'm a little nervous to see what the airport is like because people keep telling me there are a lot of folks wearing masks! Creepy right? I dunno, I think this whole Swine Flu thing is unfortunate, but not like the apocalypse is occurring. Check out this video from the 70's that Ben showed me which I think sums it up pretty well....People LOVE to hit the PB (panic button)!

Happy May Day & see you when I get back!
