Did you know Alyson Fox's spring collection is now available for purchase?! I didn't until I read this post. I was shocked to see things still available. How great are the prints? And the turquoise necklace? Is anyone surprised at how affordable the jewelry is? uuughhhh. I'm trying SO HARD not spend money, but this is not making it easier.

I failed to bring my camera along once again this weekend. In short, it was a fun filled weekend that included birthday parties, margaritas, donuts, and Whale Wars. Have you seen this show? Being a HUGE whale person since I was a wee little girl, I was excited to watch this show. After the first episode however, I soon began to realize the show is more about watching morons make really poor decisions in the name of the beautiful creatures. I won't lie...It is quite entertaining to watch.

Last week I stumbled upon Chelsea's etsy shop and fell in love with her designs. I love the simplicity of her necklaces and quickly contacted her about doing a trade. I just received them in the mail and I'm so pleased with how they look. Both are great lengths and I love how they look layered together. I can't get enough of simple chain necklaces lately.

DS & Durga + Erika Weiner

DS & Durga perfumes have merged with jewelry designer Erika Weiner to create these beautiful Victorian "vinaigrette" perfume lockets.

Vinaigrette's were perforated lockets or containers with aromatic smelling salts or vinegar inside. A lady could sniff these if she was feeling faint from the unpleasant aromas of 18th and 19th-century urban centers. Later, through the 1920's, solid perfume was used. Possibly the oldest and most common type of vinaigrette involved a square of linen soaked in an aromatic liquid.

I love the idea behind these. They seem so romantic and whimsy but the scents they have created sound so empowering:

FOXHUNT: Based on an antique formula for laying trails in the classic sport of draghunting--a fox-free version of foxhunting. Country herbs, wild flowers, deep leather-patchouli. An aristocratic aroma.

EMPRESS JINGU:For the fearless woman samurai--the 15th Japanese Imperial ruler--who fashioned her sword handle from hinoki wood and waged war among the cypress forests & violet fields.

I celebrated my 26th birthday while I was in Hawaii. Although the day itself was one of the worst days of my life (long story, but a woman forgot she tied her dog to the back of her truck and took off dragging it to death. Ben and I witness the whole thing, but we're unable to stop her until it was too late....absolutely horrible. If you have a dog PLEASE don't ever tie it to your car. Apparently this happens a lot [Sorry for the complete downer....]) I did get a pretty awesome gift from my wonderful husband.

A long time ago, maybe even a year or so ago I came across the line Mctega and fell in love. The line is designed by Sarah McLellan and Kristina Ortega who once interned for Rodarte. They combined their last names (just like Ben and I!) to form Mctega. A lot of their line is inspired by their science background and see jewelry making as an experiment. I bookmarked one of their necklaces under my favorites awhile ago and Ben must have found it because he bought me the most beautiful necklace from them (first picture) for my birthday. Its truly stunning. Made from chain and resin, its not too heavy and feels really comfortable on. I wore it with a pair of jeans, heels, and tank top last night to see a movie at our new independent theater. I've actually had a lot of fun photographing it as it picks up light really well. It feels and looks like a piece of art. Thanks Ben for the best gift ever!

rocks on my ears

Ben and I went agate hunting last weekend with our friends Luke and Laura. We drove up the north shore of Lake Superior, rolled up our pants, and waded into the ice cold water sifting through millions of little pebbles in search of agates. I didn't have much luck, but Ben found a few keepers. Our friend Dan was the inspiration behind the search. He spends hours looking for agates, and hours more tumbling them, drilling little holes inside each of them, and making jewelry. I bought these earrings from him last week. Simple, but absolutely gorgeous. Like buying food, its fun (and feels good) knowing where something originates, how that something was made, and the story behind it. I hope to incorporate more things like this into my daily life.

If you are interested in buying a pair, shoot me an email. They are only $15. All the agates are found by Dan in Lake Superior (the largest fresh water lake in the nation yo!). I'm also hoping to help Dan set up an Etsy shop in the near future, right Dan?

You have to admit this is a pretty rad idea. Bugs, especially beetles can be so beautiful.

I would definitely sport a bangle or two.
