happy friday.

weekend plans are still up in the air. it has come down to driving 4 hours to canada to the cabin or keeping it cozy at home and working on the house a bit. i've decided to give up my (pink) office and let ben have it as a drawing/painting room. it's going to be painted white with old wood crates for shelving. i saw this office on lena's blog from the book lines & shapes and so wish my walls looked like that. have a great weekend!

Turkish Bath Towels

Thanks to Etsy's recommendation page, I found Turkish Bath the other day. How have not found this shop till now?! I know my beach days are numbered, but I'm thinking I could use them for our sauna or maybe even as normal towels (?).

happy friday.

Speaking of decorating my house...Nikole's home is AMAZING. I kept dropping my mouth a little more with each page scroll. I love her style and the mixture of new and old things. I definitely book marked this one for ideas.
.................
This weekend I am: helping/welcoming good friends move into their new home (2 blocks from mine!!), celebrating being with Ben for 10 years!!!, canal park garage sales, and getting in my last long run before the big half.

haus.

I've lived in my house for 3 years now and like most home owners I still have lots of things to cross off my list as far as getting things how I want them. For one, our dining room has boggled my mind to the point where I don't really know what to do with it. I have ideas but when I start working on those ideas I end up not liking them after all. I've given up on the dining room for now and have switched my energy to our guest room.

Ben and I painted it a couple months ago and now it's a matter of figuring out what to put in it. My friend Helen is coming up from Chicago next week so I have been busting a move trying to get it ready. A few weeks ago I found the most amazing map ever. It will be making it's appearance in the guest room and I can't wait to show you once it's up. Yesterday I went to our local antique shop and almost dropped dead after finding the rug in the above picture. I've been looking for a Navajo geometric rug that has pink in it and this one was a SUPER steal ($80!!). I kept looking on ebay for one but the bids always get up to around $500. It's large and round and perfect. Also while I was at said antique store I saw the above lamp which is the same color as the rug and quite unusual looking. I love it. All I need is a bed in the room and it should be almost complete. Once it is I will be sure to show you, but I couldn't resist giving you a peek of my new finds.

not just rocks

I love this idea so much!
I used to have a rock collection like this when I was little.
I remember there was a rock inside that looked exactly like a chunk of potato salad.

I just got this in the mail. I'm pretty excited that its not real dead animal but ceramic.
Now the only question is where to hang it?
Above the toilet or in my bedroom? Decision decisions.....

herring never looked so good

I'm loving these kitchen and dining wares from New House Textiles. A company based in England & Sweden that is family owned. The collection is based on 1950s Swedish designs mixed with a little retro. I really want the fish canister!

A taste of "healthy" heaven

I'm not going to lie, I have weak spot of the egg McMuffin. Don't get me wrong though, I think fast food is terrible for the human race, but maybe once or twice I year (usually if I have been out late) I'll get an egg McMuffin and it tastes like heaven. In my defense, Saveur magazine did an article on this breakfast sandwich not too long in honor of the man who invented it, Herb Peterson. Even the editor at Saveur admitted to its deliciousness. Ben and I decided to make our own "healthy" version of these last night along with a new potato salad we had never tried. The result was heavenly. We decided to use whole wheat English muffins, and VEGETARIAN "fake" ham as meat substitute in the sandwich. I was a little hesitant, but I thought it was pretty tasty. Anyway, here are the recipes: Vegetarian (octo) Egg McMuffin Serving 4
ingredients:
4 Whole wheat English muffins
4 eggs
2 tbs olive oil
4 slices of vegetarian "meat" ham
4 slices of sharp cheddar

1.)Start toasting the muffins in toaster. Heat oven to 350
2.)while they are toasting heat up oil in skillet, once hot add veg ham & cook till ends get crispy. Flip if needed.
3.)Remove "meat" once done and place on paper towel. Using existing oil, add four eggs to pan and cook sunny side up.
4.) While eggs are cooking place a "meat" slice on each muffin.
5.) remove eggs with spatula and place one egg on each muffin. Add cheese on top of egg.
6.) Now that you have the sandwich built you can stick it in the oven until the cheese begins to melt or fry it like a grilled cheese in a pan. and your DONE! Easy peasy.

Purple Potatoes and Snap Peas (we found this on the bag. So good!)
Ingredients:
1lb of Petite purple potatoes rinsed
1/2 lb of sugar snap peas, trimmed and washed
1/4 cup of feta cheese crumbles
4 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 tbs olive oil
10 fresh mint leaves slices small

1.)Cover potatoes in a medium saucepan with cold salted water by 1 inch and simmer until tender (15 min)
2.)Use a slotted spoon and take cooked potatoes out to cool. Keep water in pot and add snap peas. Boil water and blanch peas for one minute. Remove and drain. Run cold water over them. Pat dry.
3.) Cut potatoes into quarters.
4.) Throw all ingredients into a big bowl and toss. Done!
