yes. it's the weekend. tonight is a good friend's birthday. tonight we will be celebrating with cake, champagne, live music, and $5 homemade pizza's all at another good friends restaurant. if your in town come by lake ave at 9pm for a real treat.
Is it really Friday already? This week flew by (I don't mind in the slightest). Weekends are like gold to me these days. I have yet to plan my weekend, but I hope it involves some apple beer.
weekend plans: cook the okra in my friddge, visit with my sister, veg out. yeAh.
weekend plans are still up in the air. it has come down to driving 4 hours to canada to the cabin or keeping it cozy at home and working on the house a bit. i've decided to give up my (pink) office and let ben have it as a drawing/painting room. it's going to be painted white with old wood crates for shelving. i saw this office on lena's blog from the book lines & shapes and so wish my walls looked like that. have a great weekend!
This weekend I am flying solo which means two things: I eat like crap (usually indulging in late night pizza or mac 'n cheese) and I don't get dressed unless I REALLY have to. Weekends usually involve me sleeping in and going to estate sales right after breakfast. If I feel inclined, I might take advantage of Ben not being around by going out for a drink with some girlfriends or having them over to consume even more pizza.

I am off to the cities for my first Twins Game at the new stadium! I can't wait to drink cheap beer and eat concession food. The rest of the weekend will include bbq goodness, runs, and hopefully some estate sales. Have a good one!
We have lots of people coming in town for our sailboat party* this weekend, so I've been trying to get the guest room finished. I would say I am pretty close and I'm at least pleased enough to let people stay in it without cringing. Besides a few things (bed + curtains + wood art) I've found all the decor in the room through either estate sales or thrift stores. The most money I dropped was on the rug ($80) which was a total steal in my opinion. The mid-century white table won't be in there permanently, but for now I need it for Hello Victory. I would also like to hang something (maybe Bull horns**) over the bed. TBD.
My sister is in town and we have many things planned: A river kayak trip, happy hours, and maybe camping under the stars. I hope you have a great weekend!
I think it's been a record breaking summer in Duluth. Clear skies and hot weather is not something that sticks around continually here. I'm finally starting to adjust to being hot all the time and I am no longer cursing the sun when I wake up and our bedroom is 83 degrees (that's a slight lie since I was a little cranky this morning). I may have to eventually cave and buy an air conditioner. 
It's hot hot hot here. I can't really complain too much because I spent all day at the beach, but I've been melting in this chair for the last 30 minutes trying to get this post together. I thought I would show you my "wishful thinking 4th outfit". I do own the hat at least. "silk, horse hair, uranium glass buttons, glow-in-the-dark thread" ummm coool.
I kind of want to see this.
I'm looking for a good natural or semi-natural deodorant. I just bought this and it's too early to tell if I like it. Do you have any deodorant you love? (I'm also in the process of trying the crystal.)

Speaking of decorating my house...Nikole's home is AMAZING. I kept dropping my mouth a little more with each page scroll. I love her style and the mixture of new and old things. I definitely book marked this one for ideas.
I am heading to Canada for a long weekend. Ben's dad has a house on Lake Superior just over the border. We're planning on eating mass amounts of home cooked meals, drinking wine his dad made, and fishing. I'll leave you with some internet action and these super rad prints I just found in my "I want" folder. I can't remember where I found these (if it was you let me know!). I like how they sum everything down to a few key factors.
This picture reminds me of the slingshot Ben just bought a few months ago. When we stayed up in Lutsen all the boys bought one, found (or stole?) tac pellets and entertained themselves for hours shooting empty beer cans by the lake. There's something admirable about being able to amuse yourself with the simplest objects.
This weekend is full of celebrating. On top of just buying her first house today (2 blocks from ours!!), April is turning 30 tomorrow and Grace's birthday is today! A bunch of us will be out and about tomorrow night for both their birthday celebrations. It should be yet another fun filled off -the- hook weekend. Speaking of birthdays, we celebrated Ben's big day a few weeks ago and I just remembered I had this photo in my phone. Every year he jumps in Lake Superior no matter what the weather is like. This particular day was cold, rainy, and extremely wavy. You could still see some ice floating in the water! 
For one of his birthday gifts he received a bottle of Root which I had heard about a long time ago thanks to Kate. Not only is the packaging super awesome, but it tastes pretty good too! The ingredients of this ancient liquor are pretty neat, but I was worried about the anise (not a big fan). Fortunately, it tastes more like spicy sarsaparilla. I enjoy sipping mine on the rocks. 
Have I mentioned I have pretty amazing friends? My friend Nick brought back these gifts for me from his travels around the world. When he's not working in Antarctica or Greenland he's traveling through Nepal, the Galapagos Islands, or climbing mountains. Every so often he'll return to the states for a few weeks and make a trip up to Duluth for a couple days. This time he brought me back a Russian mathematics book, a pouch and earrings from the equator, stones from Kathmandu, and coral from the Galapagos. What a lucky gal I am to have such a good friend.
