a new november

Going on trips always make me feel really unhealthy when I return. Probably because I eat out for every meal, drink with every meal, and don't workout. These habits also tend to rear their ugly little head in my life when winter comes. I HAVEN'T SEEN THE SUN IN ALMOST 2 WEEKS!! Do you know what this does to a person? I have decided (with some exceptions*) to not eat out for the month of November AND to not drink alcohol. I might be a little crazy, and those of you who know me are thinking "uh huh Kate....", but I truly am going to try my best. Think of all the money I'll save and how great my prosciutto filled arteries will feel (I just ate a prosciutto and fig sandwich...)! I'm blogging about this because it will make me accountable and hopefully easier for me. I will keep you posted on progress!

*So of course you saw the asterisk and was wondering the catch? I will eat out if its a friends birthday dinner or special event we feel strongly about. This might not even happen but just in case.

Since I'm on a roll. I should probably mention I'm going to try really hard not buy anything for myself the month of November (and maybe even December). OK. Done. Thank you for listening to all this...

small talk

Leslie just e-mailed me some pictures from last weekends funness. It was an ideal autumn day in Duluth. Sunny, a mild breeze, and a good trail to hike along a rushing river. Lunch made the day even better....Have I ever mentioned my love for Danish blue cheese? Combine this with walnuts, a brown butter maple sauce, figs, and baguette. Its pretty much heaven on a plate. I live at the Scenic Cafe when this is on the menu (for a mere 2 months).

My other new addiction? Netflix! I know, I know. Your wondering why, just today, I'm excited for something every other person has already been using the last 2 years. Ben and I finally took the plunge after our favorite movie rental store went out a biz (And yes-I realize the irony and reasoning behind this). We really wanted to support the small guy as long as we could, but now that they are gone we signed up last night and spent 3 hours of our evening watching Dexter (for free yo). Of course I feel a little guilty I am indulging in the very thing that probably made our local movie store close, but they didn't even have the movie BIG the last time I went there! All they started carrying was new releases. I'm so excited to have all these foreign and independent movies at my fingertips! Have an recommendations?

gypsy

The fall weather is definitely here. I find myself with ice cold toes scurrying around the house grabbing the first warm things I see to throw on. I look like a gypsy with what I have on right now. Striped cardigan, pink hat, blue pants.....looks like I got dressed in the dark, but that OK since I'm not going anywhere until tonight.

I had a great weekend. I hungout with good friends for the entire 3 days. Leslie came up from the cities and we spent all day Sunday doing fun things. Hiking the Sucker River (Argos loved this), lunch at the Scenic Cafe, attending a fall party at a friends house, and ending the night watching Valentino: The Last Emperor. I even managed to get a 9 mile run in Saturday! The Whistlestop Half marathon is in 2 weeks already! I need to get my butt in the ready.

It feel like I have a million and one things to do so I better get crackin. Have a good day!

Seriously, I don't blow dry my hair (ever, don't even own one) so I just mess this around in my hair and DONE. It dries all sexy messy and STAYS that way!

say goodbye to cousin it

Well folks,

Its time. I'm chopping my locks off in a half hour!

I can no longer do it (no pun intended).

Sorry husband, but my thick long hair weighs about 15 pounds on my little head

and I am beginning to feel like cousin It.

I'm going for a bit of an Alexa Chung cut thats a little longer.

My hair is so thick so we'll see...

geisha bun love and fashion shows

this is leslie. she is a best friend of mine. some people think we are sisters. she is an art director at a gallery in the cities and gets to go fun places like paris and new york a lot. she told me high buns are the latest hair trend, so we decided to try them out....i think i look like a hippie geisha. (thats ok though) {trying not to giggle}

Remember when I said I recently became a buyer for a new clothing boutique that's opening up? Well, Andrea (owner & friend) just called to let me know I will be flying to NYC to attend the Circuit.Intermezzo Enk fashion showrooms to pick out more lines! I'm so excited to be in New York and get to preview new clothes AND get to buy them!!! I feel so lucky right now. I leave in 2 weeks!
